The Royal Yacht Squadron’s Bicentenary International regatta is complete. “Four seasons in one week,” was the apt summary from one crew member of Monday’s gales, and a gradual wind reduction to the windless afternoon that ended the regatta today.

Mike Broughton, navigator on Jethou explained the conditions in the Western Solent. “We started in a completely different breeze to the J Class who had started upwind to the east in a south easterly,” he said.

The starting sequence has begun and the racing is on for all classes in the RYS Bicentenary International Regatta. The J class have crossed the line at their 1045 start in winds of around 8 knots from the South East, and are making good progress towards their first mark to the east, Mother Bank, then East Bramble. Class Zero, the three Grand Classics will start on the same line to the East.

All other IRC classes are racing to the west with the first warning at 1130.

0900: The Race Committee has announced a postponement to wait for wind. The next update will be at 1000. There will be no warning signal after 1300, as this is the last day of racing. The prizegiving will be at 1730.
