Day 1 of Regatta - Monday 27th July 2015

  • The RYS flag flying proudly from the stern of the majestic Mariquita

  • With the first day's racing abandoned, crews are making the most of a relaxing day in Cowes

  • With a day in hand, there's plenty of time for crews to prepare their boats for racing

  • It's busy on the docks as crews have an extra day to prepare for racing

  • The RYS Jubilee Haven. Teams representing 11 different countries are participating in the RYS Bicentenary International Regatta.

  • Smoke from the RYS cannon announces the abandonment of racing on the first day of the RYS Bicentenary International Regatta

  • Unfortunately, not out racing, the William Fife designed Mariquita is on the dock at Cowes Yacht Haven. Built in 1911 and restored in 2003, she is widely considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful classic sailing yachts.

  • The Toe In The Water crew for the RYS Bicentenary Regatta is, from left to right, Capt Emma Hivey, Ryan Deane, Sgt Amanda Giltrow, LCpl Chris Herbert, Tanya Brookfield, Honorary Commander RNR Dee Caffari, Cdr Steve Spiller, Darren Gale, Capt Lloyd Hamilton (skipper), Maj Simon Nadin, PO Andrew Twycross and LCpl Steve Palmer.

  • Sir Ben Ainslie, Sam Davies and Jimmy Spithill made up this star-studded panel, hosted by Ken Read for North Sails 'History in the Making' event at Cowes Yacht Haven on the first day of the regatta.

  • With over 500 sailors in the audience, it was a great turnout for the North Sails 'History in the Making' event at Cowes Yacht Haven on the first day of the regatta.

  • Some interesting topics were discussed, with questions from Ken Read and the audience.

  • Ken Read led the group in a discussion of sailing including themes of technology, innovation, teamwork, and fostering enthusiasm in young sailors.
